Elgin, IL – A bird? A plane? No, it’s a cop on that rooftop! The annual Cop on Top fundraiser for the Special Olympics kicks off today across Kane county at participating Dunkin’ Donut shops. Police officers from the local cities, including Elgin, will stake out the rooftops to encourage awareness and donations to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics fund. All donors receive a free donut. A donation of $10 or more will get you a free stainless steel Torch Run traveler’s mug and a medium coffee. This successful event has raised over $310,000 last year, and the police department is hoping to surpass it in 2014. Dunkin’ Donuts has created a special frosted donut for this event, called “The Champion” with red and white glaze, the colors for the Illinois Special Olympics.
